My name is Jim Mills and I am the Commissioner of 8U Boys Lacrosse. Before we get into the details/scheduling, let me outline what we will try to accomplish this year……
Our main goal is for your sons to have FUN while developing an understanding of lacrosse and sound fundamentals. The focus will be on learning through FUN drills and games during practice and the fundamentals of the team game and sportsmanship at the scrimmages.
Some of our boys are brand new to the sport while others have played before. We will work with each of them to provide an understanding of the fundamentals and provide a solid foundation to their future development as lacrosse players.
There is a big difference between having fun and fooling around. We will do our best to keep the focus on having fun but will firmly address any situations that distract from learning or jeopardize another players safety.
I look forward to great season.
We currently have 30 boys registered.
Registration will be kept open throughout the season so if you know anyone else who would like to give lacrosse a try please encourage them to sign up!
Practice will begin on Tuesday, March, 17th.
We will practice on TUESDAY and THURSDAY evenings from 6:00 pm – 7:00 PM on the turf field at Carl Sandburg Middle School (8428 Fort Hunt Rd, Alexandria, VA 22308). We will be on the portion of the field closest to the school / parking lot.
Different schools have different spring breaks so we will practice through the breaks with lighter #’s anticipated over a two week period. Enjoy your Spring Break!
Our first interleague scrimmage will begin on Saturday, March 21st at 8:30AM and run through 10AM (really around 9:45 - the boys are smoked by the end).
All games are on SATURDAYS from 8:30 to 10:00 AM on the turf field at Carl Sandburg Middle School (8428 Fort Hunt Rd, Alexandria, VA 22308)
We will divide into 4 teams, spend the first 30 minutes on warm up, fundamentals, positioning and general rules. We will increase in difficulty as the boys become accustomed to the format and as their skills improve. Increasing the difficulty will include passing requirements prior to being "hot" or able to shoot.
Our game schedule will be:
March 21st and 28th
April 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th
May 2nd, 9th and 16th
Our last game is scheduled for Saturday, May 16th.
We will have two practices the week of May 17th limited to those graduating to 10U next season.
